As the son of a professional artist, I grew up surrounded by creativity. In my teens, I began to study mechanical engineering. In my twenties, I became interested in all things digital. In my thirties I learned how to lead large scale product teams to excellence. I've always had a passion for learning, creating, and problem solving. After 15 years applying my design skills professionally, my goal is simple... help people by making things easier.
Empathy is everything to me. While my team's visual and technical skills are strong, above all, we pride ourselves on truly understanding who we are designing for with a core desire to assist.
It is vital to start any project with meaningful user centered research. Visit people, listen, and document what they are conveying. Through user journeys, critical contexts are outlined, deeply articulating how users think and what they expect. My teams involve as many people as possible from the start; engineers and key stakeholders are a must.
Work on the user interface itself is strategically reserved until the entire objective is understood in terms of user goals, product roadmap, company resources, and timeline. Iterations of sketches and wireframes will follow, tested with users and presented with stakeholders at each further stage. Elite product solutions are best achieved when strong iteration and communication are the team's underpinning cornerstone activities.
For product accessibility, I provide teams the necessary structure for shared ownership between product and engineering. Each team member's role on WCAG 2.2 being understood from the start is the only way to truly deliver on meeting today's guidelines and ideal user experience.
Once the core interaction of a solution is proven to be sound, we efficiently leverage design systems and AI capabilities where they are best suited. My teams know how to leverage new and evolving tools, while still maintaining a critical mindset to protect our company and customers.
